Welcome to my SXSW blog. I leave tomorrow, from Richmond to Austin, should arrive around noon. If you don't know about it South by Southwest is a multimedia festival. In it's 20th year, it started out as a Music festival showcasing new artists. Then a film festival was added which included multimedia, and later the Interactive festival was made into its own event. This is probably my 10th year attending. The Interactive Festival starts today, with panels around blogging, Web design, podcasting, rss, and social issues around Internet use. Keynotes include popular bloggers Heather Armstrong and Jason Kotke and one of the originators of Red vs. Blue (the film series created using Halo). Also, Craig Newmark of Craigslist will be interviewed by Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia. That should be an interesting session. There are many crossover events, such as The Beastie Boys talking about their documentary on having concert-goers shoot video during their shows. Throughout, there will be film screenings and parties.
Then, starting next Wed., about 1300 bands will descend on Austin to perform in 50+ venues. It will be a complete media and entertainment overload. Stay tuned here for more commentary and photos.
