Foo Fighters close with Best of You

I know, I wasn't that close for Foo Fighters. But, I enjoyed the show from afar. Dave Grohl was so funny, and even though he didn't play until the police dragged him off stage, they played everything I wanted to hear. Great way to close the festival. One of the best closing-night headliners we have had in the 7 years of the festival.

So, now the post-ACL depression sets in. First, I will be in denial. I'll get up early and start packing my bag with sunscreen and Wet Ones, put on a basecamp T-shirt and grab my camp chair. Eventually, reality will set in... and there's always SXSW to look forward to. Wonder who'll be playing that?

ACL Friday

Well, the network was down from around 2pm until the end, so I didn't get to tweet or upload pix directly from the Fest as much as I would have liked, but here are the photos from my camera:

If I feel industrious in the morning, I might load a few videos to YouTube. I'll try to get more things posted throughout the day tomorrow. Stay tuned!

ACL Festival Schedule

Here's where I'll be at ACL. Lots of overlap, so you will probably see me attempting to sprint through the park.

...then later at the Continental Club with Rhett

After his show at Threadgill's, I stayed around while Rhett chatted with fans. I just "happened" to mention that Lil Capn Travis was playing at Continental Club and that I was going. I knew Rhett was pals with those guys. And, what do ya know... he showed up, was coaxed on stage to sing with the band, and then played one of his own songs. Great night, one of those special nights that could only happen in Austin.

Rhett Miller at Threadgill's

Rhett Miller, lead singer of the Old 97's, was in town on Thursday night for a rare solo gig at Threadgill's. He played unaccompanied to a very big crowd that was very into the music, songs from across the Old 97's catalog as well as his solo CDs, The Believer and The Instigator. Old 97's have a new CD, Blame It On Gravity, and Rhett played the new single from that one, "My Two Feet," among many others including "Jagged," "Come Around," and "Rollerskate Skinny," and closed with "Time Bomb."

I've seen Old 97's many times, and have even caught a Rhett show with full band at SXSW a few years back. But, seeing him perform, alone on stage, playing the songs in a stripped down manner, this was rather special, and offered new insight into his charm and talent. A lovely night with a lovely person.

Crazy night at the Hole

Brent Adair played the coveted Monday night slot at Hole in the Wall on Sept 8. He was supposed to be opening for The Century, but they were a no show. So, Brent, always the dedicated entertainer, rocked the house until closing time. As you might guess, things got a little loopy during the 1am hour (Jeff Botta was particularly "on" as a drunk reggae rapper, and Derek had some good Billy Joel in him, Nina joined on tambourine). Here are some photos. Brent has the video tape, but if he gets some things on YouTube, I'll be sure to embed. Trey Brown opened.

Brent Adair in Minneapolis

Brent hangs out with adoring fans at the Terminal Bar. Shelley Dubois,
one of my oldest and dearest friends, brought some friends out to see
him. Shelley is the little blonde on Brent's right. Wish I could have
been there!
