Rhett Miller, City Winery, NYC, Aug. 19, 2010

Trip to NYC + Rhett Miller show = perfect vacation. I was able to sneak away just before the semester begins to take in some sights in the Big Apple and the see Rhett perform at City Winery. It was a nice, intimate venue with a large crowd. Rhett played Old 97's songs, including a few of the new ones off of the yet unreleased The Grand Theatre Volume I (look for it Oct. 12), as well as some of his solo tunes. Plus, a special guest, Tracy Bonham, joined him on stage. Opening was Harper Simon, and he's got a famous dad. You may have heard of Paul... So, it was a star-studded night and a great week!

Rhett did some hilarious readings from Ben Greenman's new book Celebrity Chekhov.

The very talented Tracy Bonham joined Rhett for a few songs

And here are just a few pics from my NYC experience:

View of Empire State Building from High Line Park

The High Line is a nice place for a walk or run, and great views

This is the Carrie doorstep from Sex and the City. Wow, so many TV memories there. Thanks to my friend Jonathan Valdez for showing me around the Village.

And Sarah Jessica Parker lives in one of these, just around the corner from the Carrie doorstep. I

This statue was at the World Trade Center. Had been there for more than 30 years. It was damaged during the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, and sits in Battery Park as a temporary memorial of the vent.

I always love to look at the water from Battery Park. Nice place to sit. Plus it reminds me of Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan ;-)

I took the Staten Island Ferry, which is free and a great ride, and got a few pics of the Statue of Liberty and the NYC skyline. A very nice trip.

Quiet Company, The Belmont, Aug. 17, 2010

Texas Music and Verizon are sponsors of the Downtown Live summer concert series. Each Tuesday, another great local act takes the stage. Check the link for details. This time it was local faves, Quiet Company, with opener Royal Forest.

Ian Moore, Buttercup and Aimee Bobruk at Continental Club, Aug. 13, 2010

Just getting caught up with some back photos from before my NYC trip. I went to this show after the Quiet Company Satellite Sets taping - friends Buttercup and Aimee Bobruk were opening for Ian Moore. It's been a while since I'd seen Ian, and I had completely forgotten how amazing he is. A really great show.

Quiet Company on ACL Presents Satellite Sets, August 13, 2010

Most bands dream of playing the iconic ACL stage, and now more will be able to, because ACL is hosting Satellite Sets, performances to be hosted on the Web. Last night, Quiet Company got the chance, and they had a big crowd for this special occasion, lots of singing along and participation. The band looked and sounded great. I can't wait to see the video once it's posted on the site.
