Portland artist Elke Robitaille makes a stop in Austin on 6/25 during her summer tour. She has a really pretty voice and good songs, very reminiscent of Ani Defranco.
Neal and Mike rock in front of the colorful, new mural.
Brent Adair played Hole in the Wall with a full band, sounded amazing in a great room, iconic stage. There was a good crowd and a few other really great acts.
Another Wed. night at Quack's. You'll notice the beginnings of some new artwork behind the stage. Things are really coming along at what is fast becoming the premier east side hang out.
Brent's cover of Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark."
Trey Brown, new to the Quack's Wednesday showcase, with "The Good Times." Catch him, as well as Brent, on the bill at Hole in the Wall next Thurs (6/19).
And, I have to apologize to Neal and Patrick. They performed stellar covers of Pete Yorn and Son Volt. I had them on video, then accidentally deleted them when I was trying to make room on my camera's flash memory. I know, I suck. But, I promise to get them next time the Doghouse Project gets together.
Congrats to Neal and Monique. They just found out they are having a GIRL! Details at themehtafam.blogspot.com.
The Mother Truckers raised the roof at Waterloo this afternoon. They're heading out on tour, but had a few moments to meet with me for an interview. It will eventually (hopefully in a day or two) show up on Texas Music Extra, so check for it there. Look for Issue 5.
Brent Adair released his new CD Ostrich with a big shindig at Momo's on May 31, 2008. Friends and family were out in full force to support Brent on this superb effort. Backed by some of Austin's most talented musicians, Brent's songs took on new depth and texture. The band included John Leon (Summer Wardrobe) on pedal steel, Derek Morris (Fastball) on keyboards, drummer Jeff Botta (54 Seconds), and John Thomasson (Patrice Pike, Juliana Hatfield, David Garza) on bass.
Great music, great fun, and a great CD. Congrats, Brent!
