ACL Festival 2009, Day 3

It was a muddy mess for Day 3, even though the weather was dry. The rains the day before completely soaked the new Zilker special grass, and apparently all that rich compost below came to the surface. It made for a stinky aroma and a very messy situation, but that did not deter music fans. Lots of good stuff on Sunday!

B-52s

Heartless Bastards

Love the gold-top Gibson Les Pauls that Erika Wennerstrom plays

Girl Talk was a highlight. I had seen and shown to my classes the documentary about him called Rip: A Remix Manifesto. He samples popular, nostalgic music, makes great mixes, a very high energy show. But, there are some copyright issues regarding his use of other's material. The doc explores the creative nature of his work and highlights some deficiencies in our legal system.

ACL Festival 2009, Day 2

Deertick

For Day 2 at ACL, the rains came... and they came all day long. Not enough to cancel shows, mind you. But enough to make everything a muddy soup. The crowds, however, were still large, so Austin gets an A+ for being hardcore. Here are some of the best things I saw on Saturday.

Airborne Toxic Event

Bon Iver - perfect mood for a rainy day

Bell X1

Neal, Ethan and Kelly enjoying Bell X1

Alberta Cross

Shelley and Brent just before the rains came for John Vanderslice

John Vanderslice was my favorite of the day. Didn't mind at all that I was standing in pouring rain and mud while he was playing. Amazing songs, great voice... band was so good.

Bon Iver - So I wasn't in a great spot, could hardly see for the umbrellas and camera guy, but I love this song.

The Scabs - always great. Bob Schneider is a talented dude!

ACL Festival 2009, Day 1

The first day of ACL Fest brought great weather, nice temperatures. This was probably the best ACL day we've had so far in terms of comfort. Good idea to move to October. Now, we just need to keep our fingers crossed that we don't get rained out today. Here are some scenes from Friday.

Keep your shoes on Kellen. ANTS!!!

Big crowds, beautiful day

Todd Snider

Walkmen

Phoenix was my favorite of the day. They sounded great, had a lot of energy. I'll be getting their album! It was very sweet when the lead singer said they had never played to a crowd this large. He jumped down into the audience at the end of their set.

Couldn't wait for the Fest to begin, so I kicked things off with a pre-party at Beauty Bar, saw the Steps and Lemurs. Video to come, if you can't wait for me to post them here, you can visit my youtube channel. I'll have pics from the fest each day.
