It was a lovely evening in Austin for an outdoor concert with Rhett Miller. Rhett played solo, introducing songs from his new, yet unreleased eponymous CD (expect in June). Rhett sounded great and had his trademark energy. I was able to get only a few decent images, because the Gestapo at Shady Grove prevented me from getting close enough most of the night. I did sneak up toward the end for the final two video clips.
Rhett, as well as Murry Hammond, will be playing a few shows as an opening act for their band Old 97s, so look for them coming to your town. Details at www.old97s.com.
Make sure you choose the HQ setting, if not already playing in High Quality.
Spoon was definitely the show to be at last night. By the time I first heard about it, the tix had already sold out, so I was ecstatic when Josh Shepherd tweeted that he had a pair to sell. Thx, Josh!!! It was a fantastic night, beautiful weather, outside venue... and the show was brilliant. They played some new tunes, then launched in to several favorites, including selections from 2007's GaGaGaGaGa, as well as their back catalog (Small Stakes, My Mathematical Mind). It was all about the music, incredibly engaging...the crowd was with them the whole time. Can't wait to hear the new CD.

Black Nasty opened, which was interesting. You'll see from the clip. That's his sister, Pink Nasty. You've probably seen some of her stuff around this site.
Hi and welcome to Sessions at On That Note. Today, my guest is Phil Dutra. He's a friend that I met while he was playing a weekly showcase at Quack's last summer. A fantastic singer-songwriter, Phil has been in Austin for only a couple of years. Take a listen and go out and see him soon. His next gig is May 1 at Thunderbird.

As always, your comments are appreciated. Hope to see you at a show!
April 14th was the big day for Fastball. They released their new CD, Little White Lies, with an instore at Waterloo and then Tony, Miles and friends played later at Vino Vino. They've been getting lots of good press on the CD, including a Statesman article with great front page photo, as well as my review in the current Texas Music Magazine. Show some love and run out there and pick up the CD.
